Do you want the ultimate performance on your Windows 10 PC? You can make your computer faster, lighter, and energy-efficient using an SSD or solid-state drive. If you use HDD on your PC and want to switch to SDD, this guide will help you move quickly. After switching to SDD, your computer becomes durable and speedy.
If you have decided to move from a hard drive to a solid-state drive, you will need to transfer everything available on the older drive to the new one. If you don’t understand how to do it, you will get steps for the same below to get everything on the new drive. Please note that this post will help if you only want to switch from a hard drive to SSD. So, without any delay, let’s see the required steps.
Be prepared with your PC
Before you start, you should confirm that you have erased the files you want to delete for a hassle-free transition. The best thing is that Windows provides a cleaning tool, especially for it. You can use it for quick cleaning. To get this tool, you can search Disk Cleanup in the search bar and hit enter to access it.
After opening it, you will have a box with a file list to locate the files you have to delete. Here pick the files carefully that you want to erase. If you’re going to keep something, you can check the file twice. Hit the option Clean Up System Files close to the bottom of the window. You can select some more files by doing so. Finally, use the OK button to activate the Disk Cleanup tool for cleaning junk data.
Take the help of a migration tool
You don’t get any tool from Windows 10 to clone the OS for a new drive. But don’t worry; many third-party tools will help you in cloning. They are developed to facilitate switching from a hard drive to an SSD. We have included some free tools like EaseUS Todo Backup Free 12.8, EaseUS Partition Master Professional 15.0, and AOMEI Backupper Standard 6.2.
After installing the tool, you can clone your old drive. Go to the app and open it. See the main menu to find a sidebar with options like Backup or Backup Tool. Go through the right option and choose the location to store the backup data. After that, wait for a moment and let the process complete. Consider external storage or a cloud backup to store the backup data.
Decide the destination drive
Now you have to decide the destination drive. So, take a new hard drive or a different one and connect it to your computer based on the migration. The widely used way to connect the drive is to use SATA cables. They are flat in shape and designed in L-shaped.
Now, connect the drive to a free port of the motherboard. If you don’t know how to use SATA cables, you can read about it online. You can connect an SSD drive by using a USB cable. Moreover, go to the application you have chosen and find the option like Migrate OS to SSD/HDD, Clone, or Migrate. It is all you need to see. Now a new window will open. The program will discover the drives linked to your PC and ask for a destination drive. You have to choose an SSD or some other drive. Please ensure that the destination drive should have adequate space.
Adjust partition sizing
The tool you choose for backup provides options to adjust partitions. You should delete the partitions in the destination folder as a safe option. You also get an option to select partition sizes. The system also allows you to create a copy without needing to resize. Apart from it, you can use the option for proper optimization in the new drive. Now you can start the migration. Make sure that you have to migrate. You will be notified once the process will get complete. Usually, cloning requires time. So, make sure that you have connected your computer with the power source.
When the migration gets over successfully, you have to reboot the PC and confirm that all are doing good. After ensuring everything is perfect, you can uninstall the backup tool.
